英文演講稿1

five score years ago, a great american, in whose symbolic shadow we stand signed the emancipation proclamation. this momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. it came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of captivity.

but one hundred years later, we must face the tragic fact that the negro is still not free. one hundred years later, the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. one hundred years later, the negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. one hundred years later, the negro is still languishing in the corners of american society and finds himself an exile in his own land. so we have come here today to dramatize an appalling condition.

in a sense we have come to our nation"s capital to cash a check. when the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the constitution and the declaration of independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every american was to fall heir. this note was a promise that all men would be guaranteed the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

it is obvious today that america has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. instead of honoring this sacred obligation, america has given the negro people a bad check which has come back marked "insufficient funds." but we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. we refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation.

so we have come to cash this check -- a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

we have also come to this hallowed spot to remind america of the fierce urgency of now. this is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of god"s children. now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.

it would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment and to underestimate the determination of the negro. this sweltering summer of the negro"s legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning.

those who hope that the negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. there will be neither rest nor tranquility in america until the negro is granted his citizenship rights. the whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

but there is something that i must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. in the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.

we must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. we must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.

the marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the negro community must not lead us to distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny and their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.

we cannot walk as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall march ahead. we cannot turn back. there are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, "when will you be satisfied?" we can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. we cannot be satisfied as long as the negro"s basic mobility is from a smaller ghetto to a larger one. we can never be satisfied as long as a negro in mississippi cannot vote and a negro in new york believes he has nothing for which to vote. no, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream. 《1》《2》

i am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. some of you have come fresh from narrow cells. some of you have come from areas where your quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution and staggered by the winds of police brutality. you have been the veterans of creative suffering. continue to work with the faith that unearned suffering is redemptive.

go back to mississippi, go back to alabama, go back to georgia, go back to louisiana, go back to the slums and ghettos of our northern cities, knowing that somehow this situation can and will be changed. let us not wallow in the valley of despair.

i say to you today, my friends, that in spite of the difficulties and frustrations of the moment, i still have a dream. it is a dream deeply rooted in the american dream.

i have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

i have a dream that one day on the red hills of georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slaveowners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood.

i have a dream that one day even the state of mississippi, a desert state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

i have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

i have a dream today.

i have a dream that one day the state of alabama, whose governor"s lips are presently dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, will be transformed into a situation where little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers.

i have a dream today.

i have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

this is our hope. this is the faith with which i return to the south. with this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. with this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. with this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

this will be the day when all of god"s children will be able to sing with a new meaning, "my country, "tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee i sing. land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim"s pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring."

and if america is to be a great nation this must become true. so let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of new hampshire. let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of new york. let freedom ring from the heightening alleghenies of pennsylvania!

let freedom ring from the snowcapped rockies of colorado!

let freedom ring from the curvaceous peaks of california!

but not only that; let freedom ring from stone mountain of georgia!

let freedom ring from lookout mountain of tennessee!

let freedom ring from every hill and every molehill of mississippi. from every mountainside, let freedom ring.

when we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of god"s children, black men and white men, jews and gentiles, protestants and catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old negro spiritual, "free at last! free at last! thank god almighty, we are free at last!"

英文演講稿2

Good morning, dear teacher and my friends。

it’s a very intresting topic today。

i think my dad was a hero for me when i was a young child。we'd go fishing, walks, and other fun things for a kid。

every child has a good and great father, and so do i。my dad played a very important role in my daily life`````exactly speaking,in my past 16 years。

my father always stands in the center of my life, from past till now and possibly in the future。

my family was rather poor when i was in my childhood。we didn't have our own house and had to live in a shabby, small room rented from my father's factory。the room was so small that there was little space for people to walk。i didn't have my own bed and had to sleep with my parents。this is terrible both for my parents and me。

but father made this all different!he works very hard on his own business, now we have our own 2 housese, surly,i have my own room。and he take our family so much happiness, richer and richer。

when i was little,i did everything with my dad。you could always find me sitting on his knee or walking and doing everything with him。every night he would read me a bed time story and make the voices of each character。

i learnt a lot from my daddy。i learnt to never take things to seriously and to always smile。

like many other fathers,my dad and i also has generation gap。he is not good at or even can’t work the puter。so when i sitting at the puter desk,he will say something like ‘you should pay more attention to your study’,‘don’t waste time on the puter games’,‘it will be bad for your eyes’ and so on。how can i- a puter fan – reduce time on puter?so i continue studying and playing on it

years pasted,my father is over 45 now。it is time for me to look after him and i am sure i will do and we will live an even better life。and i will say,i really love you dad, cause you are the hero in my mind。

thank you so much!

英文演講稿3

since i came to the college, i have been holding positions of class and youth league union. i also have done some pragmatic work for the university and our schoolmates.

during the communication with our schoolmates, i feel it deep that the cohesion of a unit lies in a developing and advancing collective, while the strength for it comes from sincerity, understanding and contributions.

as a leader of student, one should have a firm belief with sacrifice. as a leader of student, one should be willing to make up the gap between man and man, idea and reality with his fierce feelings.

as a leader of student, one should not be selfish. what he seeks for is to work hard and give himself up to the service.

i, as one of the thousands of students of economy college, am proud of it. i would be more willing to take up the duty belonging to me. this is my initial hope. this is why i am standing here today.

i remember one candidate himself said loudly, should i leave the position quietly or be bold to stay? during the last competition for student union.

as a result, he was bold to stay for the position. to day, i would like to let everyone know that i hope that i will be kept for the position. even though i fail, i wont leave quietly and angrily out of spite because i am a member of economy college, and because my roots are in the mei campus.

no mater where i go, mei campus always stays with me and my deep feelings to it always keeps in me. i would like to work heart and soul, for my love of mei campus.

i earnestly hope to contribute my feelings and fervently hope to share the happiness and be concerned about the worries with every one of mei campus.

英文演講稿4

Three hundred years ago, an English poet,Alexander Pope, wrote thelines,Nature, and Nature’s lawslay hid in sight;God said, let Newton be! Andall was momentous epitaph came as an encouraging torch to mankind who had longwandered in the valley of ignorance. It came as an exciting aurora leading tothe "Age of Reason."

But three centuries later, even the "Mansion of Reason" has been furnishedand stabilized (and partly reconstructed, we admit) by more "Newtons" have toface the tragic fact that came as an exciting aurora leading to the "Age ofReason. "But three centuries later, even the "Mansion of Reason" has been furnishedand stabilized (and partly reconstructed, we admit) by more "Newtons" have toface the tragic fact that mankind, to some extent, is still ignorant.

Pm not dramatizing the appalling conditions by citing the followingexamples, but being serious.

It once struck me as odd to hear that some physics majors (fortunately notfrom Fudan) were discouraged from studying the fine structure of equipmentsduring the experimental classes because their laboratory work would be gradedaccording to the time length they spent.

It did make me feel indignant at the fact that some biology majors werestill encouraged to draw what they should theoretitally observe instead of whatthey had actually seen with theirIt sounds like medieval education but it is true now in some universitiesin this has been three hundred years since the "Age of Reason"began; however, some essential reasons are now still blowing in the wind, rather than takingroot in all men’s g them is the crucial ideathe importance ofscientific out curiosity, students were forced to swallow innumerablefacts, confesstheir validity and forgetthem after exams. Without curiosity, learners werebereft of the freedom to imagine, the ability to ask questions and the chancesto modify the old theories. Without curiosity, how could our civilization, theAge of Reason, make progress?

I wrote here today to my readers, that in spite of the conditions of themoment, I still have a dream. It is a dream of waking up the rational curiositywhich inhabits all human beings.I have a dream that one day university labs will be open for 24 hours tostudents from any department to testify their own hypotheses and make their owninventions.I have a dream that one day a professor and a student, or a "boss" and aresearcher, will be able to sit down together at the table of equality todiscuss problems like classmates or brothers.I have a dream that one day more "why" questions than "how" questions willbe raised by common users of computers or other home facilities so that theywill transcend the "press-the button" satisfaction and become expert is the dream once carried out by Descartes, Newton and Maxwell in theway of their own times. And if mankind has not lost his creativity, he shouldkeep it up.

If we keep up this dream, we will live out the true meaning ofMontaignesque motto, "We are born to seek and quest after truth." Not only that, the dream will make us know that we believe what is worth believing and we doubtwhat deserves skepticism. It is curiosity that enables us to tell the true fromthe false.

If we keep up this dream, our material life will no longer be spoiled byunscientific administrations and our spiritual world will no longer be timelyintruded by the opium of evil cults because the man and the society will then bearmed with we keep up this dream and stretch out the antennae of curiosity toexplore the creation, we will be conveying new meanings of Shakespeare’s lines:"beauty of the world, paragon of animals !"

英文演講稿5

It is true that most of us value honesty highly. However, nowadays we often confront confidence crisis such as cheating, overcharging, fake modities and so on. I think that we should be honest because being honest is not only beneficial to ourselves but also to others and the whole society. The reasons can be listed as tly, only honest people can be truly respected by the others and can make more friends over a long period of time.

Secondly, honesty, which is the traditional virtue of the Chinese people, can make our life easier and more harmonious. Thirdly, honesty can make our society more stable. A case in point is that Singapore, a society featuring trustworthiness and integrity, has a paratively low criminal rate.

Responsbility can be understood in many ways. for the parents , they have had the responsibility for caring for and fostering their children since the birth of their teachers, both in kindergartens and colleges, they also should be responsible for the study and life of their students, that is to say, teahers are the second parents of children somewhile. In short, honesty is gold. Honest, your reputation will bee great;dishonest, your name will be spoiled and your personality degraded. Therefore, we should never make such an excuse as "A little dishonesty is only a trifle thing. we should eradicate immediately the seed of dishonesty once it is sowed in our minds.

for us,as a friend of others,it is our responsibility to help our friends when they are in trouble or faced with difficulties. each one has the different responsibily based on their roles but we must take it for granted that we are responsible for the society.

英文演講稿6

Wide sea diving, the days of the birds to fly. Everyone carries a dream of their own.

However, what is the dream? What is dream? Dream is looking forward to, and the dream is strong - is fleeting dream you insist on the ideal as their courage and perseverance, are you responsible for their own highest level. But ask yourself, how many of us to accomplish his original dream in mind?

Our dream is a simple belief, is a future and life of their own responsibility. Perhaps, is the Youth

grand ambitions; perhaps, is the adolescent confusion and impulsive; maybe just a plain desire, desire applause, eager for success. Countless "may," innumerable "hope" because of our youthful full of miracles, large and small dreams in our hearts, in every corner of life filled with fragrance.

Only the ideal but no effort is useless. If you want to be a teacher, you should to study hard. If you want to be a player, you should do more exercises. If you want to become a businessman, he should learn to get along with people. For example, my wish is to be a famous writer grew up, because I really love writing, so from now on, I should read more, more accumulate knowledge, and strive to improve writing level. No pains, no gains, because my efforts, so my article was punished in many newspapers , and in many composition contest, I see the success I'm happy, so, struggle is the bridge to the ideal.

Yes, my dream. to give my famliy a warm, give my friend happy. Yes, my dream. The podium from the first station began his love this place, started from the first published an article looking forward to the world of words, decided to stay here from the beginning, stick to bottom of my heart desire.

Years in our faces no matter how many additional traces, no matter how much things to us across the chest wounds, as long as we have the right to breathe, to have a passion for remodeling dreams! Oxygen to survive as long as we have to have the courage to create a passion!

Choose to continue, select the value, select the achievements of the passion of life, the brave hearts of the initial dream of success!

英文演講稿9

Today i am very glad to be here to share with you my ideas of success. what is success? it is what everyone is longing times success would be rather simple. winning a game is success; getting a high grade in the exam is success; making a new friend is success; even now i am standing here giving my speech is somehow also success.

However, as a person’s whole life is concerned, success becomes very complicated. is fortune success? is fame success? is high social status success? no, i don’t think so. i believe success is the realization of people’s hopes and days, in the modern society there are many people who are regarded as the successful. and the most obvious characteristics of hem are money, high position and luxurious life. so most people believe that s success and all that they do is for this purpose. but the problem is wether it is real success. we all know there are always more money, higher position and better condition in front of us. if we keep chasing them, where is the end? what will satisfy us at last? therefore, we can see, to get the real success we must need something inside, which is the realization of people’ hopes and ideals.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed-we hold theses truths to be self-oevident, that all men are created equal. i have a dream that one day on the red hills of georgia, sons of former slaves and sons of former slave owners will be able to sit together at the table of brotherhood. i have a dream my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. i have a dream today! when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and hamlet, from every state and city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of god’s children-black men and white men , jews and gentiles, catholics and protestants-will be able to join hands and to sing in the words of the old negro spiritual, “free at least ,free at last . thank god almighty, we are free at last.”

英文演講稿11

A university professor started off his class by picking out of his back pocket a 20-pound note. And in this lecture hall of about 200 people he asked, "How many of you would like this note?"

Naturally, all 200 hands went up. He said, "Interesting." He then said, "Before I let you have it, let me ask you this question." He took the note and folded it in half twice, and then he said, "How many of you want this note?" Still 200 hands went up. Now he said, "Let me try something else." He took the note and he crumpled it.

And he said, "How many of you want this note now?" Still 200 hands went up. Finally he chucked the note on the floor. He screwed it with his shoe and crumpled it even more, picked it back up, now with dirt, and said, "How many of you want this note?"

All 200 hands were still up. He said, "Today, you’ve learned an important lesson. No matter how much I crumpled that note, how much I scrunched it up, how many times it was trodden on, you still wanted it, because it was still worth 20-pounds."

In the same way that that 20-pound note held its value,so do you."

No matter how many times life will tread on you, life will crumple you, life will scrunch you, and life squeeze you, you will always keep your value, that spark within us all of bliss, knowledge, and eternity that exists, that spark will never be taken away.

Our value is not created by the price of our clothes or our bank balance or the job title that we have. See, we should be building life and not just building our CVs. The challenge we have is that we only talk about people’s failures when they succeed.

And that’s why they become this taboo or we feel like their failures never happened. We need to share these stories earlier.

We need to bring out these stories and experiences on the journey so that people who are on the jouney can actually follow in those footsteps. And that’s why Steve Jobs said, "You can’t connect the dots moving forward. You only can when you’re looking backwards."

What are my career goals? I didn’t have it, which was a good thing because our community at that time was so small. So for me when I graduated from school. I was serious I had my simple goals, one is to get a job, two, it is basically to get an apartment, so I can be independent.

And then I went to Harvard Business School. I graduated from Harvard Business School, and because my family was in business. I decided to go into banking, to get some experience in banking. I didn’t understand so much about what banking was all about, but I learned. I worked for Citi Group, and when I was in the middle of working in Citi Group for 4 years, I had an opportunity to work at the White House because Citi Group had a special program. They selected outstanding performers within the bank and then gave them opportunity to support them for an intern in the government. I was selected as a White House fellow. I worked at the White House for one year. It was a difficult time, not easy, but I was so excited. It was so interesting because there was no Chinese, no Asian at the White House at that time, so I felt I was blazing a new trail for other Asian Americans. And I was learning a lot to be a better leader in the future. I worked for the White House for a year.

The President at that time was Wilson Reagan. He was from California. I grew up in New York. I had never been to California, so I decided to go to California, so I found a job in Bank of America in California and moved to California. I didn’t know anybody. I didn’t have friends there, but I was excited. I just wanted to see what California was like. So I was within California for 3 years and one day I got a phone call from Secretary Elizabeth Dole, and she was the Secretary of Transportation, and she needed someone who understood banking which I gained the experience from Citi Bank, and she also needed someone who understood shipping which I also had gained in Bank of America, so the two expert teams really helped me to get the job that she had admired. She had a portfolio (證券投資組合) in the Department of Transportation that was losing $1.8 a year, and she needed a banker to go and clear it up. So within one weekend I flew back from California, found an apartment in Washington D.C and started work on Monday. This is Maritime Administration. I worked there for 2 years and learned a great deal about the government. Around 2 years later, I was appointed Chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission. The reason why I was appointed was because the previous chairman of Federal Maritime Commission had passed away suddenly. The government needed someone who understood shipping, who had been in the government in shipping, who can be the Chairman. So once again my particular background in shipping, transportation and banking was very important, so I was the Chairman for a year, and then a new president came in. It was the first President Bush, and he asked me to be the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Transportation. At that time I was 35, though older than you, very very young. I was the youngest Deputy Secretary in the whole government and I was also the first Asian American Deputy Secretary in United States government.

And then in 1992, more than 20 years ago, such a long time ago, President Bush lost his re-election. When he loses re-election, what happened to America is that everybody who was with him goes. So I joined United Way of America. United Way of America was the NO.1 charity in America. I was there for 4 years.

I had little time to get married at the age of 39. It was very late. My husband, as you know, is the leader of Congress. He is a very good husband. He does his own laundry, he cooks and helps me with the house too. He is very encouraging women. I think it is really important to find someone who is going to be your life partner because they will help you adapt your life and they will help you adapt to your career as well.

In 1996, I wanted a break, so I joined Think Tank where I took some time to study and learn more about American political system, how to get ideas across, because America is a very confrontational society. People are arguing all the time, so some people are saying this, some people are saying that, and it’s OK. There is a lot of fighting back and forth. And then in 20xx, President George W. Bush was getting ready for his president chosen, and I had known him before, because I had companied with him for his father, and I knew him also at Harvard Business School. President George W. Bush was class of 71, and I was the class of 1979, so we knew each other from that as well. You will be interested to know that I was actually supposed to get, I thought, Department of Transportation, but nominate of Department of Transportation, so I was very disappointed.

I can tell you a lesson that if you face a disappointment, NO. 1, you must always think of a long term, so even though it can be a disappointment, don’t be discouraged. If you handle the disappointment well, there will be lots of other opportunities. So indeed, I was originally not offered, but I was indicated that Secretary of Labor was a position that they wanted for me. I wasn’t very familiar with labor as much as I was familiar with transportation. So I was hoping to be appointed to transportation. When it did not happen, I was very calm and I thanked the President and his team for considering me. I wish them well in their new administration, thinking that I will not be going to be a part of it. 2 weeks afterwith, the President nominate for the Secretary of Labor position encountered difficulties in confirmation hearing. In United States, the President proposes a Secretary, and then the Congress, the Senate approves. So the original choice for the Secretary of Labor encountered difficulties in her confirmation process, and she had to drop out(退出). So the White House, the President had to find a new Secretary of Labor, someone they trusted, someone they know, can clear and gain the approval of the Senate, who had no blemish on their records, so they can go through the confirmation process very easily. They approached me again and asked me whether I would be interested in accepting the position of the Secretary of Labor, so that was how I became the Secretary of Labor.

I wasn’t the first choice because my world at that time was so small that there were so few Asian Americans in the government at that time. There was no guide, no one to tell me what to expect, but what I did find helpful was what my parents were talking, you have to have courage, interest and curiosity. I think one thing my parents talked to me a great deal of is curiosity. You have to have interest, you have to have curiosity, and if you are curious, you will go on and seek more doors and more opened and these doors opened for you, if you have persistence, planned ahead, and if you have the will to persist. The world is changing so rapidly, so you have the same opportunities for you. I can’t tell you what the opportunities are, but if you have interest, and have the will, and you have the confidence, you will have a lot of opportunities.
