May: But the thing is that he has everyone of the company eating out of his hand(把每個人搞得服服帖帖的). When I called on him(去看他) last week, the happened to have a meeting. He was giving them a pep talk(鼓舞士氣的講話) and they were all ears at him. Everyone seemed to lend a willing ear to(洗耳恭聽) what he was saying.

May: He's really something(真有他的). He must have got the hang of(找到竅門) dealing with people.

May: Yes, he has. He's able to keep everyone on his toes(使每一個人忙個不停).

Jim: I must go and have a talk with him. I need to pick his brains(請教).

May: Let me give him a buzz(掛個電話) and see if he'd like to see you.

The kids were all ears at the old man.

Ask for it 自找麻煩, 自討苦吃

Jim: Do you know what happened?

May: Not an inkling(一點也不知道). What’s happened?

Jim: My girlfriend gave her boss a good piece of her mind(好好教訓某人一頓).

May: He asked for it(他是自找). I suppose.

Jim: Yeah. She is really something(真了不起).

May: But she will be in trouble.

Jim: No. she got the goods on(抓到把柄) him.

May: Do you think the boss will throw in the towel(服輸)?

Jim: He has to grin and bear it(強作笑臉).

注:Ask for... 比如:He asked for it.

Baby doll

Jack: Actually the general manager is regarded as a baby doll(和藹可親的人). He has much sympathy(同情心).

John: That's right. And his wife is a baby doll(漂亮的女子),too. She used to have many followers(很多追求者).

Jack: Were you one of them?

John: Nothing of the sort(根本沒那回事). I can't hold a candle to her(配不上她).

Jack: But you did have a crush on(迷戀上)her, didn't you?

John: Well, many of us liked her and we still think she's a knock-out(特別漂亮的人).

Jack: Don't be knock over (暈倒)when you see her with my presents.

Get ants

Sandra: It seems that you get ants(煩躁不安)when you hear I praise another guy.

Sandra: How come you think of him that way?

Frank: That's because you sound to have lost your vigilance(失去警惕性). You should be on the watch out (當心).

Sandra: I have no reason to distrust him. He's never done any harm.

Frank: Isn’t there anything that sounds fishy(可疑的)?

Sandra: Nothing smells a rat I told you that he's an all-right guy.

Frank: All-right guys! All right. Let's talk about something else instead of all-right guys.

All the way 自始至終地

May: Of course you can't stay idle, but you must find something that you are good at. You can’t do things you are all thumbs(笨手笨腳的) at.

Jim: I know. But how can I know what I am good at before I actually try?

May: That can be costly. And once you have started on something, you will have to bone up(甩開膀子幹) on it and move all the day up without hesitation.

Jim: Well, I've come all the way to seek advice from you. I depend on you for directions.

May: Depend on me? You must be pulling my leg(別拿我開心了)! I'm no good at doing business.

Jim: But your friend is. You can pull the strings(暗地裏使勁) and let him advice me.

May: Well, he's too busy to talk to you right now.
